Enterprise Manager error

After installing Enterprise Manager on a new HP laptop running XP Pro sp2, I get the following error message when to trying to "Return all rows" from a table. "Provider cannot be found. It may not be properly installed."

Everything I read on the internet says to install or reinstall Jet 4.0 sp8, but this has not solved the problem. I've also installed the latest MDAC...MDAC 2.8 SP1 on Windows XP SP2, and ran the compchecker, everthing checks out ok. Any ideas?

Thanks
T.C.

I have a new Sony VAIO laptop and am running XP Pro sp2 and get the same error when trying to open a table in any database.

I just installed SQL2000 sp4 hoping the error would go away...it didn't.

Did your problem ever get resolved?|||

Hello,

I had searched through Google and Microsoft website for the error message. I find a few matches. You could try the solution suggested in http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=44561. Another link with suggestion from alleged Microsoft online support is http://www.mcse.ms/message201860.html. It could be due to MDAC issue.

Enterprise Manager Error

Hi All
I am running into an error in Enterprise Manager on SQL 2000 SP3a
I added 6 databases to a server bring the total database count to 16
Once I added the 6 databases to the server the databases woul
not display in EM. The databases just dissapeared. However
If I tried to view the databases from with DbArtisan I did not have a probem
Also, If I tried to use Query Analyzer the databases were visible
Is there a limit within EM on the number of databases it will display
I Beleive this is a bug in EM. Has anybody encountered this problem. Its certainly not 16 :-) I take it you tried closing EM and reopening it ?
Do the databases have any non alphanumeric characters in them ? Do you have
the latest service pack on your client pc ?

enterprise manager entries

I create SQL Server Groups in Enterprise manager and for
some reason and at what seems like random times they all
go away. I see a blank list under SQL Server Groups.
I checked the registry entry below and all SQL Server
Groups that I created are there.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL
Server\80\Tools\SQLEW\Registered Servers X\SQL Server
Group
With that information, is there a way to hook it back
together so what is in the registry is what is displayed
in enterprise manager for SQL Server?
Thanks

Strange! What service pack and OS are you on?

Thanks. Can you try upgrading to SP3 or latest SP3a?the download is available
at http://www.microsoft.com/sql/downloads/2000/sp3.asp.
The reason for my advice is , may be, its due to the slammer worm.More
details

Even if you report this error(or bug), the first suggestion would be to go
in for the latest service pack.So do a test of your app. in a test env. with
SP3(a) and if okay, then go for the same with prod.

Okay - I'll go try.
I am, however, a developer in a large corporation and I use enterprise
manager to point to many different SQL Server databases, test and
production. Do I need to have each database updated or can I just update
enterprise manager that is loaded on my computer?
If I need to do each database, that is not a simple task. (sigh)
Thanks for all your help.

Enterprise Manager driving me CRAZY!

Hi,
I use the Enterprise Manager frequently and then have quite a few tables
opened. I spend half my day (well, it feels like that anyway...) clicking
away the messageboxes "Do you want to continue working with this resultset"
and "the pane has been cleared to save resources".
I understand why SQLServer 2000 wants to do this, I just don't want those
messageboxes popping up in my face every other minute... is there a way to
tell the EM that *** for the rest of my life ***
I don't want to continue working with any resultset until I run the query
again? It would be a lifesaver for me!
Thanks!> is there a way to tell the EM that *** for the rest of my life ***
Not that I am aware of.
Why not start using Query Analyzer? It is a better development tool. It
does not ask if you want to continue working with the resultset. It will
not introduce locks on tables.

Well, that's not true because I use Management Studio on several systems
without IIS configured. But maybe you tripped something else when you
installed IIS. <shrug>
|||You don't need to have IIS installed to run SQL Server 05 or any of it's

Your issue may be caused by conflicts with .NET framework 2.0. Try
uninstalling the 2.0 framework and then reinstalling the latest copies from

Enterprise Manager doesn't let me change tables

Hello all,
I am working with Windows XP professional and SQL Server 2000 Personal Edition. The SQL Server is on my Windows XP professional machine.
When I open the Design Table window, I can't edit the grid. When I put the cursor on one grid cell and click, (for example, one of the Column Names) I don't see the cursor in the grid as it should be. If I write something with the keyboard it doesn't write it to the grid cell. I can't change the grid cells.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance

This is not the problem. I can't change every table I have. I have 30 to 40 tables. Every table has a primary key.

Enterprise Manager does not show databases

Hello...
We rebooted an SQL server last week...nothing installed or changed, just a
reboot.
Now, Enterprise Manager does not show any databases listed, however they are
present, they are being used, no calls or complaints. Query Analyzer lets
you run queries against them, just EM does not list any db's. We have tried
the hide/unhide on the General tab of the Properties box. It also seems any
scheduled jobs are not running, for dumping the tran logs, etc.
We are going to try a reboot when we can, but since the users are not
complaining, it will be awhile.
Anything I could check to fix this without rebooting?
Win2k3 server, SQL2000 SP3a
Thanks.Hi,
Can you try right-click on "Microsoft SqlServer" and add try creating a
new sql server group followed by new sqlserver registration with one of the
lost server name? I am not sure why it is lost, but I think it is worth
trying if it allows registration of the lost servers.
Thanks,

Enterprise Manager Date format has changed

I am not sure how this even changed but...

Until just recently when I went into any database and listed stored
procedures I could list by the date which was in the format: mm/dd/yyyy.
This allowed me to find the most recent stored procedures as they could be
sorted to the top.

Somehow the date has been changed to: yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss:kkk
(Okay I didn't know what to use for milli second, I used K's ;)

You would think that I could still sort by date and get the newest to the
top, oldest to the bottom. I can't. Something has changed the date format,
and while I can click on the data bar and change the order from ascending to
descending, it does not appear to be sorting by the date so it does me no
good.

Does anyone know:

a) how to fix this
b) what could have happened to break it?

I have no idea, except to guess that your regional settings may have
changed - I assume that EM would use them to determine date and time
formats. You might also want to check that you've installed SP3 on your
client as well.

For what it's worth, there are a couple of previous posts about similar
issues in the group archives (Google "sql enterprise manager sort date"),
but unfortunately it looks like no one ever found a good
explanation/solution.

Enterprise Manager Databases folder shows "No items"

We're running a Win2k Adv Server MS Cluster using two servers with SQL
instances called SQL1 and SQL2 running on them. For some reason, we can't
manage SQL2 via Enterprise Manager recently since the databases folder is now
empty. The databases are there and I can see them via Query Analyzer, but I
just can't manage them via EM. "Management" folder is also empty, but if I
refresh (over and over) I sometimes can access the "SQL Server Agent" items.
Only changes that were made to the servers was to install some security
patches, but none that related to SQL server. Other SQL servers with the
same patches work fine. SQL1 instance can be managed with EM just fine.
I suspect something is wrong with SQL2 instance, but don't know what. It's
not related to the servers since I can move the instance between cluster
nodes and EM still cannot see databases on SQL2. SQL1 moves between nodes
fine and it's databases can be seen via EM.
Not sure if this is a clue, but when I right click on "Databases" and select
"New database", I get this error:
Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 22003)
Error 220: Arithmetic overflow error for that data type smallint, value=32826.
Arithmetic overflow error for data type smallint, value=32826.
The statement has been terminated.
I click OK, then I get the standard database properties dialog to create a
database...
Thanks in advance to any help or suggestions.
Regards,
-Daniel
My guess is a problem with DMO. Perhaps re-applying the SQL Server service pack will fix it?

Enterprise Manager Databases

When I try to look at my databases in Enterprise Manager it says (no items)
under the databases heading. I have tried re-registering the server and I
have tried it on several systems including from the server. I am connecting
with administrative access to the server.
The databases seem fine, I can see them all through query analyser and
through a web interface.
Anyone out there know how to get my database list back?
Thanksdo you see any kind of error in the errorlog such as exceptions? If so,
did you remove guest account, there might be a problem.

Yes, Daniel...what happens is you have an offline database and it somehow
got the ID changed on it. You can make it "Online", or remove it via
query...or run an update on the sysdatabases table. I forgot the exact
command, so let me try to find it. Until then, try to run with the above and
let me know.
I used Query Analyzer to delete the offline databases, then everything came
back.
Hope that helps,

See this for more info:

I've got a lot of 1552's, which I think is 1024(readonly) + 512(offline) +
16(torn page detection). Then I also have a lot of 28s too. I am just not
sure what to "reset" these numbers to. Is there a more comprehensive list
anywhere about resetting the status? Thanks so much for helping me out with
this. I couldn't find any info anywhere on this...

problem, so I decided to look into it. What are the ramifications if I do
this? Thanks for any help. I just want to determine if this is truly the

No, for each database which is offline, you need to execute a statement to bring it online.

Thanks
do you see any kind of error in the errorlog such as exceptions? If so,
did you remove guest account, there might be a problem.

|||I have a similar issue. I'm not getting any errors...the databases, jobs
are not showing up either on my Enterpise Manager on my laptop or on the
server itself. However, I can see them in Query Analyizer, BUT when I try to
edit a stored proc, I get some wierd error:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Arithmetic overflow error for
data type smallint, value = 32867.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Arithmetic overflow error for
data type smallint, value = 32867.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The statement has been
terminated.
Bummer...

Yes, Daniel...what happens is you have an offline database and it somehow
got the ID changed on it. You can make it "Online", or remove it via
query...or run an update on the sysdatabases table. I forgot the exact
command, so let me try to find it. Until then, try to run with the above and
let me know.
I used Query Analyzer to delete the offline databases, then everything came
back.
Hope that helps,
-Daniel

See this for more info:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...sys-d_5xrn.asp
Status field bits=512 indicates offline.
