enumerating registered sqlservers does not fill datatable complete

I've tried to enumerate sqlservers using two different methods and have the
same results... only the server name is returned, I am unable to get the
instance name so user will be unable to connect to selected server if it is
a
named instance (i.e. "Server"\SQLEXPRESS)...
Dim dt As DataTable
dt = SmoApplication.EnumAvailableSqlServers(False)
OR
Dim dt As DataTable
Dim instance As Sql.SqlDataSourceEnumerator =
Sql.SqlDataSourceEnumerator.Instance
dt = instance.GetDataSources
However I can go into SQL Server Management Studio, browse for servers and
every instance for every server (local and network) is listed... I assume
(foolishly) that MS Apps utilize thier own sdk's, if so why does it work
there but not for meOK I think I've found the culprit... the "Windows Firewall/Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS)" service
When I stop this service the enumerations return the Instance name and
Version of the SQL Servers... Hooray but what if Users have this service
running during my application installation? I'm suprised this isn't more of
a
known issue... I'm able to duplicate the issue on 2 machines both running XP
sp2 where one has SQL Server Express 2005 then other has SQL Server Express
2005 SP1, same results. Has anyone heard or exprienced this?

It happens on any machine that's running the firewall. It looks like
the tolerance window for the enumerations is extremely small - less than
a second. If anything hampers that initial query in the slightest then
the instance names don't show up. And I'm describing SQLDMO behavior
using VB6 but the enumerations code is most likely the same or extremely
similar.
What works well for me is Kerio Personal Firewall with specific rules
but that doesn't always wash well in the general user community.

Enterprise Mgr quits after SQL2005 registering

I have both SQL2000 (default) and SQL2005 (second instance) on my laptop. Just to see if it could be done, I registered my (Local) SQL2000 default instance in the Registered Servers part of SQL2005 Mgmt Studio. It worked fine. I can see all the SQL2000 databases, etc in the Mgmt Studio.

But now the SQL2000 default instance will not connect in Enterprise Mgr nor can any of the programs that used to connect to the SQL2000 databases now connect to them. The (local) instance shows in Ent Mgr with the green arrow like it is there but Ent Mgr cannot connect when icon is clicked.

Is there anything I can do to bring the default SQL2000 instance back to be able to connect with anything other than the SQL2005 Mgmt Studio?

Do you get an error ? Which one ?

HTH, Jens K. Suessmeyer.

http://www.sqlserver2005.de
|||

The local node shows in the tree with a white circle with a green arrowhead inside the circle. Which indicates to me that the SQL instance is running and the Ent Mgr sees it. But when I click on the plus beside the node, I get the error:

A connection could not be established to (LOCAL)

Reason: SQL Server does not exist or access denied
ConnectionOpen(Connect())....

Please verify SQL Server is running and check your SQLServer registration properties (by right-clicking on the (LOCAL) node) and try again.

But I can go to the SQL2005 Mgmt Studio and click on (LOCAL) and see all the stuff in it. In Mgmt Studio, the properties for (LOCAL) show version 8.x of SQLServer.

Enterprise Mananger Info not sticking

My PC is running Windows XP.
When I registered SQL Server in the Enterprise Manager,
the information of the registered server is gone (No
items) after I log off.
I have found some registry entries under
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\80
\Tools\SQLEW\Registered Servers X\SQL Server Group
that seem to deal with Enterprise Manager.
Any ideas ?
Johnny
Hi,
It seems you do not have previlages in writing into the registry. Try
registering with a Admin OS user. If it is able to do then , ask your
system administrater to give prev (Write) to the below registry key .
HKLM\Software\microsoft\MSSQLSERVER (Root key itself)
Thanks

Enterprise manager settings migration?

Anyone knows if it is at all possible to Copy or Move the Server Registered under EM to another machine ?

Anyone knows if it is at all possible to Copy or Move the Server Registered under EM to another machine ?

Thanks

but if have the registered server on ur EM then u can just use that to register the same servers on another instance of EM... or you could get the information for the server from the Client Network Utility: ipaddresses, servername etc.|||I am aware of that . Doing for 50 Servers will be a nightmare .. So , back to the question again , is there some ini file or EM setup file I could move over?

Thanks|||I know the information about registered servers is in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\microsoft\microsoft sql server\80\tools\sqlew\registeredservers x

You should be able to export this key with regedt32. If you use regedit, you may only get the directory structure, and none of the data. Hope this helps.|||Thats what I was looking for !|||The same information is in HKEY_USERS\... But you have to guess at what your NT SID is. This is probably the more definitive place to get and store the information, as I think HKEY_CURRENT_USER is cleared when you log out.

As always, modifying your registry can have dire consequences, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Enterprise Manager Server Registrations

Has anyone discovered a way to be able to transfer all registered instances
within Enterprise Manager to another client(s) without having to re-register
them in each client?
thanks
No simple way. You used to be able to export the registry key(s), but not
anymore.

Enterprise Manager

I've got SQL Server 2000 tools-only installed on my desktop and have a
bunch of servers registered within Enterprise Manager. Every time I
connect to one of my registered servers then right-click and select
Properties, Enterprise Manager closes on me. I never receive an error,
it just closes. As far as I know, I've applied all the same service
packs and hotfixes to my tools-only install as we have on each of the
servers so versions should be the same.
What can I do to resolve this?

I have not experienced this error. Are the servers SQL7 (not that this
should matter)? If you have not applied SQL Server 2000 SP3 on your client
system you might want to do that. It will update a few binaries. Perhaps
this will help solve your problem.

|||The registered servers are both SQL 7 and SQL 2000. I've already
applied the latest patches (sp3a + ms03-031 and KB826161). Any other
ideas (other than just deal with it or call Microsoft)?
Thanks.

Enterprise class not registered 6.5

Today morning i tried connecting to sql 6.5 through enterprise edition got the following error
SQL ole object could not be registered class not registered (80040154)
I did shut down and restart, stopped and restarted the servicesAs obvious this is a problem with the class or the associated OLE dll not being registered in the registry properly . You can use the regsvr32 utility to re-register it :-

regsvr32 (path)\binn\sqlole65.dll

And replace (path) with the full drive/directory that SQL Server is installed into.|||Thanks works very good

One more question

How best to display data on web without knowing any language|||I think its not possible to work if you don't know any language ( in terms of IT). Can you rephrase your question agian.|||I just know sql and html the basic

any one language i can use to represent data on web and easy too learn

like combination or reporting tools ( crystal report) and something else too|||Then no issues in representing the data on a web page.
ASP with SQL is best combination I've seen so far (as I'm concerned).

Refer to MSDN & Technet for SQL for further information.|||Representing data using sql and asp is enough

I mean will it allow the user to choose say dates if i represent it on a drop down menu ( can asp do it i mean)

In short will i be able to represents most of the data using ASP (JUST)

OFCOURSE BESIDE SQL IN PROCEDURE OR FUNCTION
