enterprise manager in sql 2005?

Hi,
Our tech support person installed SQL 2005. But I was not to find
enterprise manager. What tool in SQL 2005 does what enterprise manager does
in the early versions of SQL server? I read the SQL 2005 overview
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/sqlydba.mspx. It
appears to me SQL Object Explorer should be the right tool. But I was not
able to find it either on the SQL 2005.
Thanks in advance for any help,
Bing
You are looking for Management Studio. If it is not in the SQL Server 2005
program folder on the start menu, then perhaps your tech support person did
not choose to install the workstation components. You might want to update
the installation using add/remove programs. Make sure you pay close
attention to each screen during the wizard.

|||Thanks much for the fast response. I checked the start menu and found this.
STart
-> All Programs
-> Microsoft SQL Server 2005
-> Configuration Tools
-> Notification Services Command Prompt
SQL Server Configuration Manager
SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting
SQL server Surface Area Configuration
In control panel, Servers has:
SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER)
SQL Server Active Directory Helper
SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER)
SQL Server Analysis Servics (MSSQLSERVER)
SQL Server Browser
SQL Server FullText Search (MSSQLSERVER)
SQL Server VSS Writer
Can that confirm management studio is not installed?

Looks like it, yes.
I have filed an issue on Connect because I see this situation a lot.

|||Excellent! Really appreciated your attention on this issue. I'm sure that
would help a lot upgraders like myself understand SQL 2005 better.

|||I'm now trying to modify the SQL 2005 installation to get Management Studio
installed. But I don't see Management Studio as an option in the lists of
Components to Install. Here are all the options I can see:
SQL Server Database Services
Analysis Services
Reporting Services (grayed out)
Notification Services
Integration Services
Workstation components, Book Online and development tools
Clicking the Advanced button shows:
Database Services
Analysis Services
Notification Services
Integration Services
Client Components
Documentation, Samples, and Sample Databases
This is the version of SQL 2005 we are running.
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.3042.00
OS Version : Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, Standard Edition
Service Pack 2 (Build 3790)
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bing

|||I think you need to Check "Workstation components, ..." and then click
Advanced. If you don't have the top level checked, its subcomponents
shouldn't be available.

|||Aha, yes, you are right. Now I got the management studio installed
successfully. If you hadn't mentioned 'Workstation components', I would have
known the management studio is part of that component. Thanks much again for
the help!
