Equality comparison of xml fields

I have a stored procedure that has an xml input parameter, and the routine will proceed only when the inputted xml is equal to the stored xml field. Is there some sort of equals comparison for this?

* The xml field is typed DOCUMENT.XML data type instances are incomparable. XML data type preserves the content information of the XML instances and may not be an exact copy of the user-supplied XML data. Comparison depends upons the application semantics.

I can suggest the following for your application:

1) Extract scalar values (using the value() method) from the XML parameter and compare with scalar values in the stored XML field

2) Convert the XML parameter to a string representation and compare with a string representation of the stored XML field

3) Add a column that stores a hashed value of the XML instances. Get the hash value of the XML parameter and make a comparison of the hashed values. For a hash match, use #1 or #2 to ensure that the match is indeed correct. There are well known hashing methods (SHA-1 for example) that can yield good hash matches.

Enterprise Manager. I can create a table in Access and
import it or use VB to populate the table without any
problem. Why doesn't EM allow data to be entered up to the
field length in the table design?

Sorry to tell this.
Enterprise manager is a GUI tool to do database administration, it is not a
tool to do data entry. You can very well
use Query Analyzer to insert the text data into a table using INSERT
statement.

I don't know the answer to your question, perhaps its a limit of the
grid control that is used? I have a question for you. Why do you want to
insert such huge values through Enterprise Manager? Why not just write a
quick script in Query Analyzer to insert the data?
Also beware that you could run into problems if all your field lengths
exceed the size of a data page (8k).

following Books Online article:
Editing Rows in the Results Pane
In particular, that article says:
You can edit a memo-type column (such as a text, memo, or long character
column) if the column does not display <Long Text>. The Results pane can
accept up to 900 characters of text in memo-type columns. If you are
typing in a cell and exceed the amount of text that the Results pane can
accept, the Query Designer will beep to indicate that you have exceeded
this limit."

We have small web-based sale order system linked to SQL server. One of the web page fields: "Remark" field only accepts 250 characters.
On the web page, the Remark field will let you type more than 250 characters. However, it only display maximum 250 characters in print preview. Any solutions?

How can I enter NULL manually in one of the rows in Sql Server database. Those rows does not contain any data.
you can use DbNull.Value. If its a datetime datatype you need to use SqlDateTime.Null and import Sqltypes namespace.

I am working on webforms i have to insert system date into sql database when a button is clicked.

I have have 3 fields on the webform and a submit button.

I have to insert the date along with the other fileds into the sql database

when I am trying to insert date using getdate() it is getting inserted but not into the same row as that of other fields.

Can you plzzz help me with the code for inserting system data into the database into the same row as that of other fields

You can't specify awhere clause on an insert statement as the whole point of an insert is to add a record (i.e. it doesn't already exist). If you want to update and existing record, you will have to use anupdatestatement.

No. If you want to insert a record you have to use an insert statement (but remove your where clause). If you want to update an existing record, use an update statement.

Thanks for your question .

let me descrive some essesntioal stuff for you first.

Insert Statement , we use this statement when we wantadd new record to our table , it means that record doesn't exist and we are going to add that , so in this case we wont usingwhere on this state ment becuase there is no any rows and we want to add that.

Update Statement , we use this statement when we already we have one or more records in our table and we want just change some of their value we use update statement and we use where to specify which rows we are going to change.

In you solution , if you are going to Insert New value to table that doesn't not exist at all use Insert Statement, if you are going to change some value in your database use update.
